She’ll keep her coaching responsibilities … Chargers owner Alex Spanos donated $1 million to the San Diego Fire Relief Fund … The Chargers downgraded T Soloman Page to questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bears. If he can’t go because of a bad ankle, rookie Courtney Van Buren would get his first start … The White Sox picked up a $4 million option for 2004 for P Esteban Loaiza (Mar Vista HS), who was 21-9, 2.90 this past season and led the AL with 207 Ks … The Cubs did not pick up their option on 1B Eric Karros (Patrick Henry HS) … The Tigers claimed AAA P Cliff Bartosh (2-5, 4.29) on waivers from the Padres, which might explain why they are where they are.

The games which were to be played this Friday, but were canceled, will be made up on Saturday, Nov. 22, according to a CIF official. No explanation was given for why the makeup games would be played on a Saturday instead of a Friday. The first round of the playoffs will be on Friday, Nov. 28; the second round on Friday, Dec. 5; the semifinals Friday, Dec. 12; and the finals four all four divisions on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Qualcomm Stadium. Division IV will have its playoffs on the 28th and 5th and final on the 17th. Eight-man ball will have playoffs on the 22nd and the final on the 29th on a time and location to be determined … USD QB Eric Rasmussen was invited to the Division 1-AA All-Star Game on Dec. 30 in Ft. Lauderdale … USD reiterated that all weekend sports events were still on, including Saturday night’s vs Butler … In baseball, the Devil Rays declined their 2004 option on 1B Travis Lee (SDSU) but will try to re-sign him. Lee, who hit .275-19-70, would have had $2.5 million coming his way.

The Crusader’s only other league game is vs Butler, a team which couldn’t beat many local high school squads … Think the Orange Bowl people are breathing a sigh of relief over Northern Illinois’ loss Saturday? We’d rather see them sweat a couple more weeks, but it looks like the BCS is off the hook for another year … It’s looking more like the Dolphins will have to turn to Brian Griese at QB vs the Chargers Monday night because of Jay Fiedler’s injury. Griese has yet to take a snap this season … Rams RB Marshall Faulk (SDSU) will only be used by the Rams Sunday in an emergency because of his healing knee and hand.
